Update! Johna just received word (9/13/06) that the Doctors have decided to go with perfect match number two. He is a 19-year old male, matches a perfect 10 out of 10, and can donate prior to Sept 28. He, too, has been contacted, passed all of the appropriate medical testing, and agreed to give Johna a second chance; the only difference is, he can do it sooner, so they figured---"why wait?"
Johna will be admitted this Monday, September 18th, for her two days of high dose chemotherapy; Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday will be her total body radiation days. Friday, September 22nd, a few hours after her radiation treatment, her transplant will take place.
Again, prayers are so much appreciated, she is very scared and still could use a boost in spirits, please remember the WellWishers eCards: Here. The Address information will be posted once it's known.
We are so excited to finally announce that there is someone out there with all the right stuff! Johna has a match---a perfect match! He's been contacted, has gone through all of the appropriate medical testing and has agreed to give Johna a second chance at life!
Her big day is September 28th. Johna will be admitted to UNMC around Sept 22nd or 23rd for high dose chemotherapy (stronger than what she's ever had before). This will be followed by 3 days of total body radiation (to rid her body of the cancer). On the 28th, the actual transplant will take place, she'll receive her new bone marrow (similar to a blood transfusion). She will be in the hospital for a few weeks after that to watch for any side effects to the transplant, etc.
When she is stable enough, she will move to the Lied Transplant Center and finish her 100 days of treatment there. Please forward this information to everyone you know, we want to share her story, her strength and to thank God for sending this perfect 26 year old man to help save her life!
He is perfect in everyway---he's male (that's what they preferred), he's young, and he matches a perfect 10 out of 10!
Now that you all have the dates, here is how to send Johna an eCard at The Nebraska Medical Center, just go to this website, it walks you through everything (Thank you Cindy!): Wellwishers
Her nurses will deliver these eCards to her. Once she gets there a mailing address will be established, it will be posted at that time.
Let's start sending these asap upon her admission.
Johna, as you can imagine, is very overwhelmed, as, unfortunately, the last 2 cycles of chemotherapy did not put her into remission. We are not losing hope, we've got the perfect match, and another call came and there is a back up (there is a second match)! How many times does that happen!? There is a reason that these two perfect people are out there...........please remember Johna in your prayers.
Pray for her continued strength and courage during this exciting, yet frightening, time of her life, and for Brian and Jamison as well. Continue to watch this website, as updates and new pictures will be added as they become available.
Johna could really use a boost in her spirits, anyone wanting to help with that, her temporary mailing address is at her mom and dad's house
